Nadodrze was built as district for blue collar workers and was considered rather dangerous for many years. In 1990s came the sharp change – it became popular among artists as well as NGOs. Wide variety of different artistic, cultural and social initiatives helped Nadodrze and its residents to improve their image, and cause many creative young people to move in there. Thanks to those changes this neglected district got a totally new life! Now it is even considered to be one of the capitals of street art in Poland.
During our walk, we will discover industrial origins of the neighborhood and its redevelopment after the war. We will get to know why modernist architects wanted to destroy Paris, and what are the social issues in „dangerous districts” like Nadodrze. We will visit several unique places like squat and a cultural center meant to help homeless people, as well as film sites where some Hollywood movies were made, including “Bridge of Spies” directed by Steven Spielberg. And most of all, we will see a lot of amazing street art and learn about its social importance. Be ready to get off beaten track and explore places where tourist don’t ever go.
